Comfortable
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. -Matthew 5:16
Finishing up my second week of this semester, I'm beginning to wonder how comfortable is too comfortable. In college, I have made so many great, sweet and godly friends -- definitely my iron on iron (Proverbs 27:17-As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another). I've also been blessed with the opportunity to join a sorority where Christ is so apparent, attend a church where I feel at home with the Lord, go to Passion 2012, join different small groups and Bible studies...and not to mention, live in a town that is one of the most CHRIST SATURATED "college towns" ever. While this is great and much of it is necessary and pertinent to my walk, it is a tad comfortable. Perhaps too much so. Doesn't the Lord call us to be more than just comfortable? How will Christ ever shine through me--work through me--if I am staying in the comfort of my room and other godly friends? Don't we as Christians need to put ourselves "out of the box" and LAUNCH ourselves into the unnatural in order to reach a broken and lost world? Don't I have to be uncomfortable to fully rely on the Lord? If I'm too preoccupied with making myself comfortable, I'm not trusting God 100%. It's like I'm thinking that if God doesn't come through for me, I've set myself in a safety net to fall into. But...God promises He is with us always (Joshua 1:9, 1 Chronicles 28:20, Isaiah 41:10, Matthew 28:20b, Hebrews 13:5-6), meaning I don't ever have to rely on myself or the world. I can depend on HIM.
So, friends. Here is what I want to leave with: Shouldn't we shine our light into the darkness to reach out to nonbelievers instead of shining our light into the light? What good will we do by staying comfortable? Jesus calls us to get out and go do Christian works. Not to enjoy a luxurious, simple, (say it again) comfortable life. What are we waiting for? Rely on the Lord. Trust Him to guide you--let the Holy Spirit lead you and fill you with words to proclaim the gospel! Quit living in faith without works (James 2:22,26). Share the good news and the joy it brings. When someone gets married or has a baby--when anything awesome happens--it is not meant to be kept as a secret! The good news of Jesus coming for us is too exciting to be kept inside and shared with only a few. Listen to the Lord...SHARE THE GOOD NEWS WITH ALL!
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." -Matthew 28:19-20
"But, I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I have received from the Lord Jesus to testify to the gospel of the grace of God." -Acts 20:24
